Seven questions to ask a Lahore marquee before you pay the deposit
6 min read · 5 October 2026
Before you pay a Lahore marquee deposit, ask these seven phone and WhatsApp questions — date holds, inclusions, headcount, weather, power, vendors, and written refund terms.

Before you transfer a marquee deposit in Lahore, get answers to seven things on a real call (then WhatsApp): whether your date is actually free, what the quote includes, headcount rules, the weather backup, power and parking, outside-vendor rules, and written deposit terms. If those answers are fuzzy, the deposit is early.
Why the deposit call matters more than the Instagram tour
Marquee reels look done. The booking usually is not. Someone walks you across the lawn, points at the stage, says "Baraat nights fill fast," and your family starts calculating dates in the car. Money often moves after that conversation, still on voice notes, still without a clear inclusions list.
I have watched families argue later about things that were never asked: generator hours, rain seating, whether the decorator fee was "included." None of that needed a dramatic story. It needed a checklist on the phone.
Use the same seven questions with every marquee you are seriously considering. Paste the replies into one note. The comparison does the work.
The seven questions (copy these into your notes)
Put these in your phone before you dial. One person asks. One person types. If the manager skips a question, stop and ask it again — politely, but out loud.
1. Date, slot, and soft holds
Ask: "Is [our date] free for [Mehndi / Baraat / Walima], which time slot, and is anyone else on a soft hold for that night?"
"Available" can mean "we have not taken your cousin's deposit yet." Soft holds are normal in peak months. Ask who confirms the hold and when it dies if you do not pay.
2. What the quote includes
Ask: "In the number you quoted, what is included — food, service staff, basic décor, AC or generators, stage, sound — and what is billed separately?"
Do not hunt for a blog's "average Lahore rate." You need this venue's list for your event type. Get the same list on WhatsApp after the call so nobody is reconstructing it from memory at midnight.
3. Headcount and change cutoffs
Ask: "What is the minimum guaranteed headcount, how do you charge if guests go over, and what is the last date we can change the count?"
Guest lists move. Uncles invite people. RSVPs land late whether you are hosting near DHA or further out. Know the cutoff before catering and seating feel locked in your head.
4. Weather and seating plan
Ask: "If it rains, if it is brutal heat, or if a winter evening turns harsh — where do guests sit, and is that setup included or extra?"
Lahore seasons are not a footnote. A smile and "we will manage" is not a plan. Ask for the indoor alternative in the same guest language they use for booking, then confirm it in writing.
5. Power, parking, baraat flow
Ask: "What power backup covers our event hours, where do guests park, and how does baraat entry and exit work that night?"
This is the unglamorous half of a good booking. Traffic stacks. Lights flicker. You are not asking for a marketing claim; you are asking what happens on your slot if the neighbourhood load drops.
6. Outside vendors and décor
Ask: "Can we bring our own decorator, photographer needs, or DJ — and what fees or restrictions apply?"
Some marquees are flexible. Some are house-vendor only. Find out before the deposit, and before you brief a photographer who assumes they can set up where they like.
7. Deposit, refunds, and paper
Ask: "How much is the deposit, what does it secure, what is refundable if we cancel or move the date, and can you send the terms in writing today?"
Deposit culture is not one number. Do not invent a "standard" refund window from the internet. Safe terms are the ones this marquee writes down for your booking.
How to run the call without getting rushed
Two people on speaker if you can. Keep the list visible. When the call ends, send a short WhatsApp: "Sharing what we understood — please correct anything wrong." Their corrections become your source of truth.
Run the list with at least two marquees. If one place cannot answer inclusions or deposit terms clearly, that is information. You do not owe them a deposit for vibes.
If family is arguing areas — say shortlisting around DHA versus a longer drive for half the guests — put travel time next to the deposit answers in the same sheet. A beautiful lawn that wrecks baraat timing is still a bad night.
Browse Lahore venues while you shortlist
Build the shortlist before money leaves. Browse wedding venues on BYAH, then use the Lahore hub when you are narrowing by city. The directory helps you decide who to call. This question list is what you use on the call.
Directory rows can be incomplete until someone has actually phoned the vendor. Treat what you see online as a starting point, not a contract.
Quick checklist before money leaves the account
- Date, slot, and soft-hold status confirmed
- Inclusions list received on WhatsApp
- Headcount minimum and change cutoff written down
- Rain / heat / winter seating plan named
- Power backup and parking / baraat flow asked
- Outside vendor rules clear
- Deposit amount, what it secures, and refund terms in writing
If any box is still "we will confirm later," you are not ready to pay.
What "good enough" looks like on WhatsApp
A useful reply is boring and specific. Date confirmed. Slot named. Soft hold yes/no with an expiry. Inclusions listed as bullets. Headcount minimum and change date. Indoor backup described in one sentence. Generator coverage for event hours. Parking note. Outside vendor fee or ban stated plainly. Deposit amount, what it locks, refund rules.
If the reply is mostly "don't worry, we handle everything," keep asking. Friendly is not the same as booked.
When two marquees both answer well, pick on logistics your family actually cares about: travel time for elders, baraat entry mess, how late the night can run. The seven questions get you to that choice; they do not make the choice for you.
FAQ
Should we pay a deposit after one visit?
Not before these seven answers are clear — and preferably written.
Do these questions work for farmhouses too?
Yes for booking risk. Lean harder on weather, power, and parking when most of the night is outdoors.
Editorial note
BYAH does not invent amenities, prices, or "verified" claims for venues. Confirm every commercial term with the marquee on phone or WhatsApp before you pay. This piece is a planning tool, not a quote sheet.
